What is the Gospel?

Do you know Jesus? There is a great difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus. God desires for us to have a personal relationship with Him. If you don’t know whether you know Him, please read the simple presentation below, or contact us directly if you would like more information about knowing God personally.

If you do have a personal relationship with God and are looking for resources to help you grow spiritually, visit our Ministry Helps page.

What is the Gospel?
Learn about God's Good News for the World - Including You!
1. What is God like?

God is better than anything or anyone.

There is no one like God! Only He is perfectly
good. He determines what is right and what is
wrong. Only He is perfectly great. That means
everything centers around God. He alone
deserves worship.
Who would not fear Thee, O King of nations?...forasmuch as among all
the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none
like unto Thee. (Jeremiah 10:7)
For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be
glory for ever. Amen. (Romans 11:36)
2. Why did God create the world?

God made the world to show how amazing He is.

Just like an artist who creates a beautiful painting should receive recognition and fame – so God deserves all the glory for forming such an incredible creation!
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork. (Psalm 19:1)
3 Why did God create us?

God created you and me Especially to show what a wonderful Creator He is.

God made us in His own image (Genesis 1:27) – this means we are the part of creation that is most like the Creator. God gave humans a mind to think, a heart to love, and a will to choose.
As a telescope magnifies the stars, God made us to magnify Him. God designed us to point back to Him and show that He is a magnificent God. Our purpose is to bring God glory by knowing, obeying, and enjoying Him forever.
4. What were the first people like?

God Made the First People Holy and Happy.

God loves mankind very much, and He created a
wonderful world for them to rule over and enjoy. He
only gave them one rule to obey. They could choose
to trust God to provide everything that they needed,
or they could choose to trust in themselves and
rebel against God. Mankind quickly chose to sin by
disobeying God.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and
death by sin. (Romans 5:12a)
5. What happened because of Adam and Eve's choice?

Death Came into God’s Good World.

God warned Adam and Eve that choosing their own
way instead of trusting God would bring death to
them and the good world He created. As soon as they
chose to disobey God, they died spiritually (they
became separated from God), and their bodies began
the process of dying physically. Life is found in God
alone, so the consequence of rebelling against God
is death. We still experience this separation today
because we continue to choose our own way.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
6. Have we all fallen short of God's commands?

Yes, and God Calls That Sin.

God’s rules reflect His character. As the part of creation made in His own image, we especially should give the right opinion of Him and His holy character. All of us have broken God’s rules. That is sin. Like a shooter who misses the target, sin is missing God’s standard of perfection. We were born in sin, and we also choose to sin every day.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
(Romans 3:23)
7. What are some of the ways that we have sinned?

We Break God’s Laws Every Day.

All of the laws of God can be wrapped up in two simple rules. We should love God first and most, and we should love other people as we love ourselves. For example, God commands us not to lie because God is always truthful. God commands us not to steal because God is always a generous giver and not a thief. God commands us to love Him first and most because only He deserves all our love and worship. Failing to love and obey in this way is also sin.
For I the Lord love judgment [justice], I hate robbery [and wrong]. (Isaiah 61:8a)
8. What is God's attitude toward sin?

God hates sin and will punish
all sinful actions, thoughts, and words.

Not only does sin separate us from God, but God will punish sin forever with eternal death. Sin is a BIG problem. We need a Savior (someone who saves) to rescue us from sin and the penalty of sin. We need to be forgiven! Who will help us?
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15)
9. Does God love me even though I'm a sinner?

Yes, so much that he sent Jesus
to take the punishment that I deserved.

Jesus took our place on the cross. He paid the penalty for all our sin. Jesus died that we might have life! But Jesus did NOT stay dead! Jesus is the only one who can rescue us from sin and sin’s penalty, because He won the victory over sin by rising from the dead. He is the living Savior.
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God... (1 Peter 3:18a)
Jesus takes away my sin and gives me his righteousness!

And be found in Him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God
by faith: (Philippians 3:9)
10. Will God save me from Sin's penalty?

Yes, God saves all those who turn from their sin and trust in Him

Do you need to be saved from your sin? God wants to save you! Just like you would call 9-1-1 to get in touch with people who could help you during an emergency, so you can call out to God to rescue you from sin and its penalty. (It’s not the call that saves, it is the God you call Who saves!)
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)
How will you respond to this good news?

• Do you believe that Jesus died on the
cross and rose from the dead to save you
from your sin?
• Do you want Jesus more than your sin?
• Will you receive God’s gift of salvation
through Jesus?
For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but
have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world
to condemn the world; but that the world through Him
might be saved. He that believeth on Him is not condemned:
but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he
hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of
God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the
world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because
their deeds were evil. (John 3:16-19)
For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin;
that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
(2 Corinthians 5:21)
