THE WILDS of New England
December 2007
Dear Friend,
I’ve always heard that the older you are the faster time goes, and I never used to believe it. Well, it is true! Here we are approaching the eighth year of our millennium, and God has shown His goodness all year long. We are very thankful for the many wonderful blessings that were accomplished by the grace of God through THE WILDS (in North Carolina, New England, and abroad). Consider…
- In 2007, our North Carolina served over 21,000 campers. We look forward to the day when we can say we ministered to a significant number of campers in New England. The sale of the Meredith property is continuing to progress, and we expect a closing in the spring. With some present instability in the New England real estate market, this is a definite miracle of God. Please keep praying and trusting that day will come soon and we’ll then be able to take the next step.
- We hosted our very first TWNE Junior Camp in a rental facility at Singing Hills Christian Camp in Plainfield, New Hampshire. It was an incredible week! We had approximately 150 campers in attendance and saw 10 professions of faith in addition to many other decisions regarding time in God’s Word, kindness to brothers and sisters, dealing with selfishness, etc. I wish you all could have been there for the testimony time on the last night. It made us laugh and cry.
- Our mission with each camper is to “present the Truth of God with the love of God so lives can be changed to the glory of God.” In North Carolina we did that by hosting 82 different camps of 19 different varieties. In New England we had the one week of summer camp and we also had a second week at a location in western Connecticut for a private school camp. We again saw God use the ministry of camping to encourage teens to love God and hate sin more.
- At both camps, each camper was challenged to establish the best habit in life—a personal devotion time called God & I Time. It has made a difference in the lives of thousands of campers!
- A new six-week Bible study on the book of Philippians was published and two new CD’s, Rejoice and Journey, were recorded this year by our staff.
- CampsAbroad, the missions arm of THE WILDS Christian Association, Inc., traveled to and gave detailed help to 9 fundamental camps making a total of 40 mission fields in which we have had the opportunity to help. CampsAbroad has been instrumental in the beginning of new camping programs in 23 countries—an incredible outreach.
We trust that, by God’s grace, 2008 will be filled with even more blessings than we saw in 2007. We appreciate your continuing prayers and support of this ministry as we seek to reinforce your local churches in reaching families and young people. God is graciously starting to use THE WILDS of New England, but your financial support at this time of the year will be a major factor in enabling TWNE to expand existing programs, search for and develop a permanent campsite, and aggressively serve others for the cause of Christ. Your generous year-end gifts are humbling, always appreciated, and greatly needed. Have a joyous, memory-filled Christmas season with your family. God bless you!
For all the prayerful partners of TWNE,
Rand Hummel
